Compare Two QuotesSolar panels: your questions answered
Still unsure? Our guides and system size tool can help.
Do solar panels work in the UK?
Yes. They generate electricity from daylight rather than heat, so they work year-round and produce the most in spring and summer.
Do I need planning permission?
Most rooftop solar on houses in England is permitted development, so no application is needed. There are exceptions, such as listed buildings and some conservation areas, and the rules differ slightly elsewhere in the UK. Your installer will check.
How long does installation take?
Most home installations are completed in one to two days once scaffolding is up.
Can I add a battery later?
Yes. Batteries can be added to an existing solar system, and standalone battery installations currently qualify for 0% VAT too.
